Join Holistic Mystics for a weekend intensive of Spiritual Alchemy during our Mystic Retreat, Saturday and Sunday, July 28thth & 29th. Beginning Saturday 1pm - Sunday 7pm
This event is for those who want more than just to know ABOUT the Alchemical Work, but who seek to live and accomplish the Work within themselves.
Those who are new to Alchemy are equally as welcome as those who are already greatly familiar with it. A familiarity with Alchemy and its workings may be helpful, but not necessary to benefit from this event.
"Do not read written works and think, "This is the Way." Written works are like the gate to approach the Way. Thus, there are people who remain ignorant of the Way regardless of how much they have learned and how many Chinese characters they know. Though they face the pages and read skillfully as though they were annotating the ancients, they are ignorant of the truth and so do not make the Way their own. Nevertheless, it is quite difficult to approach the Way without studying. Still, one cannot say that a man embodies the Way simply because he has studied and speaks well. There are also people who are naturally in harmony with the Way and who have never studied at all."
- Yagyu Munenori
In this way, we endeavor to have each and every attendee walk away with two things:
1: A lucid understanding of the Work
2: A direct experience of its workings
And by doing so, we can recognize it as a fundamental working methodology hidden within all the great Spiritual Traditions.
“Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise; seek what they sought.”
-Matsuo Basho
As such, our focus will be the esoteric exploration and application of Alchemy.
“The learned may penetrate into the significance of all oriental mysteries, but the vulgar can only see the exterior symbol. It is allowed by all who have any knowledge of the scriptures that everything is conveyed enigmatically, i.e. esoterically.”
- Origen of Alexandria (185—254 C.E.)
In this way, we will be focused on the tangible experience of the Alchemical ingredients and operations within the cauldron of the body, and the furnace of the mind.
“Some ask what the furnace and cauldron are. Li Qing-an said, "Body and mind are the cauldron and furnace." An alchemical text says, "First take Heaven and Earth for the cauldron; then make a ball of yin and yang and cook it." Heaven is mind. Earth is body. People today who set up an external furnace and cauldron are mistaken.
The furnace and cauldron are the body and mind. To cultivate refinement, there has to be the body; then spirit and energy have a base and do not disperse, and the work has a basis on which to be carried out. This is what is called borrowing the temporal to cultivate the real. Since the furnace and cauldron are the means by which substances can be cooked and transmuted, the Master of the Pass used the term pot, which was later changed to furnace and cauldron. Using this symbolism for the body can be considered clever and apropos. There are many different terms, such as the inner furnace and outer furnace mentioned in the Triplex Unity, but their essential meaning does not go beyond this.”
