Your body is your temple!
There's more to your body than meets the eye, and I don't simply mean that beauty is within. Fitness and wellness are much more than what you look like. In fact fitness does not always reflect wellness. Fitness is defined as the quality of being able to perform a particular role or task. Wellness on the other hand is defined as being in a good condition of physical and mental health.
Even when determining fitness, it is not always what it may seem. Those who spend hours lifting weights may have large muscles but may not be able to perform functionally. A good example can be seen in arenas like the Strongman competitions. Often those with the largest and most clearly defined muscles are the first to be eliminated. At the end of the day, exercise and fitness are all about movement. Wellness takes this a step further to include the health of both the body and the mind. This also determines our resiliency to, and ability to recover from, injury and illness. |
Strength & FitnessSince phyisical fitness is all about functionality within a task, it is important to understand that any task will require a limited set of capabilities. Our bodies are designed for 12 major functions that make up all major physical movements.
They are:
While you can work towards specialized functions, there are some core exercises that make up the basis of all your major movements. This means that by working on just 7 exercises you can cover just about any functional need your body may have. Most people are only able to do one if any of these 7, and even most elite athletes can only do a handfull of them. Each exercise is done in stages leading up to the ideal. While most people are aware that the muscles are being worked, not as many are aware that the connective tissues have to develop as well, or there can be some severe damage done to connective tissues and joints. Here I talk about strength building exercises, nutrition and its relation to a state of mind (to link to mind modules for SEO development).
